Meet the composers of Chronicle 时•录

introducing alex and rockey

Our new commission Chronicle 时•录 isn’t just the work of one lone voice, but the co-creation of two of the UK’s most dynamic composers - Alex Ho and Rockey Sun Keting.

With just two weeks to go until the world premiere at the Aldeburgh Festival, it’s time to meet the composers…

Alex Ho is a British-Chinese composer whose music and stage works have been described as "insidiously bold" (Opera Magazine), “menacing and poetic" (The Guardian), and "important and impressive" (Opera Today).

Winner of the UK Critics' Circle Young Artist Award 2021 for his "compelling and individual" works, Alex is resident composer at Glyndebourne Opera (2023-26) and was Artist-in-Residence at Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier (2021-24) and Associate Composer at Oxford International Song Festival (2022-23).

His music theatre piece, Untold, premiered to critical acclaim at Concertgebouw Brugge and O. Festival Rotterdam and won the international FEDORA Opera Prize 2023 awarded at the Paris Opera’s Palais Garnier for a "bold and moving creation".

Rockey Sun Keting is a China-born, London-based composer, creative director, and researcher whose work explores the meeting points between Eastern philosophy, embodied performance, and contemporary sound.

Working across concert music, music-theatre, dance, and multimedia, her practice frequently integrates electronics, movement, and visual dramaturgy.

Described by The Independent as “the future way to go” and praised by Bachtrack for her “harmonic imagination” and “mastery of instrumentation,” Keting’s music has been performed internationally by leading ensembles and artists.

Announcing Chronicle 时•录

announcing Chronicle 时•录

We’re thrilled to announce our first large-scale co-commissioning project in partnership with the Netherlands Chamber Choir and artist collective Tangram.

Chronicle 时•录 is a new multimedia choral-theatre work by composers and Tangram co-artistic directors Alex Ho and Rockey Sun Keting, with text by Yilin Wang.

Alex Ho
“Having begun developing this project over a year ago, I am hugely excited to be entering the creation phase ahead of our premiere performances next year. Chronicle builds on my own portfolio of operatic/theatrical work exploring Chinese diasporic cultures through interdisciplinary exploration, whilst also challenging me to do so with a choir for the first time.”

Rockey Sun Keting
“This project speaks to the core of who I am as an artist, someone drawn to the space between memory and history, language and sound. It’s a chance to bring ancient Eastern poetic traditions into dialogue with contemporary choral music, and to give voice to women across time through a modern lens.”

Chronicle 时•录 will premiere in June 2026 at the Aldeburgh Festival with additional performances to be announced.
